The Elements of Accoutrements

The Elements of Accoutrements

Here at L’Atelier des Paniers, we know a thing or two about cheese boards (slash charcuterie slash grazing boards). This solid skill set comes in handy for not only a party, or with wine, but even for just an ordinary Tuesday. Seriously, have you ever seen anyone who is not delighted by a cheese board?

The keys to building the board of your dreams are variety and balance. You want a ton of different things on there for visual interest, but they have to (somewhat) go together. You want your spread to look plentiful, but not sloppy. Try to use different colours, and avoid putting items of the same colour next to each other. Presenting it all on a wooden board makes your offering look sophisticated yet approachable. Finally, for goodness sake, use a real cheese knife. It is an easy way to elevate your arrangement and show that you really care about your guests.

We love a sweet and salty bite so we always include a spread like jam or honey (or both). Olives and pickles offer a nice tangy contrast (don’t forget a small bowl on the side for the pits). Use multiple types of crackers and place them in a way that fills the gaps. For extra crunch, nuts are always welcome and will help you reach your fibre goals. Fruits and vegetables add freshness and texture, and now you can call this a meal (do not listen to anyone who tells you it isn’t).

Et voila! You can be sad before you eat a cheese board, and you can be sad after you eat a cheese board, but you can never be sad while eating a cheese board. Facts.

From our pantry to yours, enjoy.
